How it works
From file to checked report in seven steps. This page describes what the product does, and says plainly what it does not.
Seven steps
Upload one file
One file per analysis, in the column format for the report. If a row has a problem, the page lists it and tells you to fix the rows and upload again. A file with problems never creates an analysis.
The numbers are computed
Variances, and the price-volume-mix bridge, are computed from your data. They are not computed by the AI.
You explain the material moves
An account (or product) is material when its change is at least $50,000, or when it moved at least 10% and by at least $10,000. You can change those thresholds. For each material one you give a reason, an amount, and whether it is one-time or recurring.
The AI writes from computed facts
The computed figures are given to the AI as facts to restate, not to calculate. It is not allowed to state any number, name, date, category or ranking that is not in your data.
Each cited figure is checked
After the report is written, a validation pass reads each cited figure back against your data. Figures that match are marked verified. A number you typed yourself in an explanation stays labelled as your number.
You see what needs attention
The report page shows the Fact check panel and a trust score from 0 to 100. A report with unverified figures shows a Draft banner. A report cannot be published while a number is not tied to one of your figures, a must-pass check has failed, or there is no trust score.
Export or share
Download .docx, Export .md, Download PDF, Export facts .csv, or Print. Share creates a read-only link for someone outside your account; it always expires (1 to 90 days) and can be password-protected.
Working with your team
Each analysis, and the reports made from it, has people who can look at it and people who can change it. The account owner can always do everything. Writers, chosen per analysis, can edit, upload, explain, finalize, generate reports and publish. Readers can only look: they see finalized analyses and published reports, and nothing in progress.
You choose who can write and who can read in Sharing on the analysis page. Each plan is for one user, and the account owner can add users at $5 a month each. The bell in the top bar tells you when someone makes you a writer or a reader. On the report page, Actions then Comments opens a panel where you can comment, reply, and resolve a thread.
Sharing and exports
The Exports menu on the report page offers Download .docx, Export .md, Download PDF, Export facts .csv and Print. A Draft carries a draft marker in the Word and Markdown exports.
From the Actions menu, Share creates a read-only link for someone outside your account. A link always expires (1 to 90 days) and can be password-protected, and the share panel shows how many times it has been viewed.
Versions and change history
Every generation is saved as a new version of the report. The report page has a version switcher, and each version has its own address. A published report can be reverted to unpublished.
Actions then Audit opens Change history, a list of the resolve, edit and override actions taken on the figures in the Fact check.
About this beta
ReportForge is in pre-production. It is a work in progress and, at this stage, a study of what AI can do for real-world finance reporting, built with the help of AI coding tools. Features, prices and limits can change, and the service can be interrupted. Nothing it produces is professional, financial, legal or accounting advice. The figures in a report are computed from your file and checked against it, but the narrative can still contain errors, so review every report before you rely on it. Only upload files you are comfortable sharing with the service providers listed in the Privacy Policy.
What it does not do
It does not make the narrative correct. The narrative can still contain errors, so review every report before you rely on it. ReportForge is not a substitute for professional, financial, legal or accounting advice.
It checks the figures a report cites against your data. It does not check the quality of the writing.
It does not know why something moved. The report restates the reasons you write, so the reasons are only as good as what you write.
It does not bring in outside figures. The AI cannot add industry averages, typical figures or anything from outside your files.
The AI provider
ReportForge writes the narrative with a third-party AI model provider, Anthropic. To produce a report, relevant portions of your content are sent to that provider and returned as part of your report. The numeric figures in your reports are computed by ReportForge, not by the AI model.
